    Community Engagement Worker

    24 hours per week

    Fixed Term Contract until 30 June 2027 with possibility of extension

    North West Community Services Inc (NWCS) is a long established, not for profit, community based organisation, servicing individuals and families within Sydney’s North West Growth Area, with a particular focus on Blacktown North West and Hills North Ward.     As a neighbourhood/community centre, we aim to build strong community connections, offering a range of opportunities and meaningful activity that can improve health and wellbeing, economic and social outcomes for local people.

    NWCS  has an exciting role for a suitably qualified and experienced professional to join our Community Connections team.

    The Position

    The Community Connections team is funded by a range of public agencies, along with private donors and sponsors. Services include support for vulnerable individuals and families, emergency relief, child and youth programs, employment initiatives, gambling support etc. Services range from group activities, volunteer activity, community events and community capacity building activities, including information and advocacy, community consultation, and planning to meet emerging needs.

    The position will provide a range of engaging activities that build community capacity, social cohesion and belonging, with a focus on community strengthening and community wellbeing.

    The Community Engagement Worker will build social connection through community-led activities, group based programs and accessible outreach, incorporating information, referral pathways, and service navigation directly in community settings. The position will support our volunteering program, and work with the NWCS team to implement skills development opportunities as pathways to employment and empowerment, whilst also fostering individual and collective resilience by addressing social isolation. The position will have a focus on quality continuous improvement, data collection and compliance with a range of regulatory requirements. The position will integrate opportunities across various NWCS funded programs and opportunities for clients.

    The successful candidate will have the following essential requirements:

    • Tertiary qualifications in  social science/ human services/community services

    • Commitment to social justice, cultural diversity, accountability and integrity

    • Demonstrated experience with trauma informed and person centred practice

    • Two years industry experience working with vulnerable people and those with complex needs

    • Demonstrated experience delivering group-based programs for children, young people and adults

    • Strong level of communication, written and interpersonal  skills, particularly when working with people from a range of socioeconomic backgrounds and with diverse stakeholders

    • High level computer skills, documentation, client data management systems and  attention to detail
    • Ability to manage a high volume workload
    • National Police Check, Working with Children Check and First Aid (or willing to attain)
    • Drivers Licence and comprehensively insured motor vehicle
    Desirable Criteria

    We encourage applicants from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander or CALD backgrounds.
