The Chamber hosted Kevin Conolly MP for a special meeting to discuss the recent Precinct Plans.

During the 1.5 hours meeting Mr. Connolly responded to a number of questions raised by members ranging from specific concerns to ideas on cohesive infrastructure implementation. The Member for Riverstone conceded he personally had little power to change the plans however assured the crowd that all submissions are considered by the Department of Planning and offered advice on the best way to achieve the best outcomes.

The Chamber encourages all Members to take this opportunity to voice their opinions, ideas and suggestions on the matter. Tell us what it is that you want!

All parties seem to agree with the Bandon Road bypass option so why aren’t the Government establishing this road before development on Marsden Park North begins.

Infrastructure first strategies have been used successfully in the southern suburbs fo Canberra where similar large land parcels were released to create the suburbs of Wright and Coombs. The major arterial and sub-arterial roads were completed before construction began which provided a safer working environment for construction workers and minimised impact on local traffic.

Once completed, Bandon Road will provide thoroughfare from Richmond Rd to Winsdor Rd to the North of Garfield Rd as well as one South. Together, these roads would the heavy vehicle traffic necessary to complete the proposed developments of both Schofields West and Marsden Park North a safer, faster option than Garfield Rd.

To compress the timeframe even sooner, release dates for land development could be tied to milestones achieved with the Bandon Rd project. For example, at 50% completion of Bandon Rd, Schofields West development can commence. At 80% completion of Bandon Rd, Marsden Park North can begin.

This will also help with the goal of bringing families back to the CBD.

Once Bandon Road is complete, everyone can go back to debating over what to do about Garfield Rd.
